  • Schedule: Full-time Day shift- 40hrs./week

  • Location: Trussville, Alabama

What You Will Do

  • Patient Care & Assessment:

    • Assess and evaluate patients with complex wounds, ostomies, and continence issues.
    • Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient assessments and evidence-based practices.
    • Provide wound care, ostomy management, and continence management, including the application of dressings, ostomy appliances, and continence devices.
    • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Patient Education:

    • Educate patients and their families about wound care, ostomy management, and continence issues.
    • Instruct patients on how to care for their wounds or ostomies at home, including proper dressing changes and skin care techniques.
    • Offer emotional support and counseling to patients and families adjusting to life with an ostomy or managing incontinence.
  • Collaboration & Coordination:

    • Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care.
    • Provide consultation and recommendations for wound care and ostomy issues to other healthcare staff.
    • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care and treatment progress.
  • Documentation & Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and progress in accordance with hospital policies.
    • Monitor and report any changes in patient condition or complications related to wounds, ostomies, or continence issues.
  • Quality Improvement & Education:

    • Stay current with the latest developments in wound, ostomy, and continence care.
    • Participate in educational programs, workshops, and continuing education opportunities to enhance clinical expertise.
    • Assist with quality improvement initiatives related to wound care and ostomy management within the healthcare facility.

What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

 

  • Certification as a Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse (WOCN) required (or in the process of obtaining).
  • Completion of an accredited WOCN education program

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent nursing degree.
