Surgical Tech Certification required. Surgical technologists are important members of our perioperative care team. At UAB St. Vincent’s, surgical techs maintain and prepare instrumentation and equipment, helping cases run efficiently and allowing us to provide the highest quality of care. You’ll have a unique opportunity to support our nationally recognized orthopaedic and sports medicine doctors on a variety of cases, including total and partial joint replacement, hand and spine surgery, and ankle and foot reconstruction. In more than 15 operating room suites, our care team provides personalized surgical care to improve a patient’s quality of life and minimize recovery time. This position offers two schedule options – five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts – with limited weekend and holiday on-call responsibilities.

Facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.

• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile drapes and sterile solutions as well as appropriate sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Hand required/requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor/track instruments counts throughout procedures.

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.  American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• One or more of the following required:
  • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's
  degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
