What You Will Do

To process paper documents into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or physical chart as appropriate.
To ensure the accuracy and completeness of all documents entered into the patient record. To adhere to
all policies and procedures governing the handling of medical records.

 

1. Preps paper patient documents for scanning. Scans documents into EMR and performs quality
check in accordance with UAB Medicine Scanning Guidelines. Notifies MRG Supervisor when any
potential duplicate or inaccurate medical records are identified.
2. Sorts paper patient medical records. Determines which documents should be retained based on the
UAB Medicine policy.
3. Enters paper fetal monitoring strips received (non-Risk) into database and prepares for storage.
4. Performs other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need

Education:

  • Associate's degree in a Health Care related field or five (5) years of experience in an HIM department or related field required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a Health Care related field preferred
  • Must be able to identify clinical documents and possess knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) preferred.
