What You Will Do

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs a variety of laboratory tests to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. This position is responsible for specimen processing, testing, quality control, equipment maintenance, and accurate reporting of results. The MLT ensures compliance with all regulatory and safety standards while providing excellent service to patients, providers, and team members.

 

  • 1. Perform daily instrumentation start-ups, quality control (QC) runs, and accuracy verification; troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Review Orchard worklists and ensure all specimens are processed efficiently and accurately for testing.
  • Conduct testing across multiple disciplines including Hematology, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Immunochemistry, Serology, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Diagnostics.
  • Process and prepare specimens for testing and reference laboratory submission as needed.
  • Manage and process add-on test requests per established protocols.
  • Verify and report results in Orchard LIS and/or Allscripts EHR with attention to accuracy and timeliness.
  • Communicate STAT and critical results promptly to clinical providers.
  • Perform routine maintenance, calibrations, and cleaning of laboratory analyzers.
  • Monitor supply and reagent inventory; notify supervisor of shortages or reagent lot expirations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas; ensure compliance with infection control and safety standards. 
  • Perform specimen collection (phlebotomy) and assist with transport of specimens as needed.
  • Support laboratory documentation, including QA/QC records and equipment logs.
  • Maintain professional communication with patients, providers, and clinic staff.
  • Maintain all required licenses and certifications.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality policies.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need

Licenses / Certifications / Registrations

  • ASCP or AMT certification required. Must meet CLIA and state of Alabama requirements for testing personnel.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) from an accredited program required.
  • Previous experience in a clinical or healthcare laboratory preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of universal precautions and infection control procedures required.
