What You Will Do

The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting, labeling, and processing blood and other specimens for laboratory testing while ensuring accuracy, patient comfort, and safety. In addition to specimen collection, this role performs a variety of clerical and administrative duties to support efficient laboratory and clinic operations. The Phlebotomist provides excellent customer service to patients, collaborates with clinical staff, and ensures compliance with all regulatory and safety standards.

 

  • Perform venipuncture, capillary, and other specimen collection procedures on patients of all ages.
  • Verify patient identity and ensure accurate labeling and documentation of specimens.
  • Process and prepare specimens for internal or reference laboratory testing according to established protocols.
  • Maintain specimen integrity through proper handling, storage, and transport.
  • Perform point-of-care or CLIA-waived testing as assigned (e.g., glucose, rapid strep, or urine dipstick).
  • Monitor and restock phlebotomy supplies; notify supervisor of inventory needs. 
  • Follow infection control, safety, and universal precautions at all times.
  • Support the laboratory team by assisting with specimen deliveries and maintaining a clean, organized work area. 
  • Greet patients in a professional and courteous manner; verify demographic and insurance information.
  • Enter, update, and retrieve patient information and test orders in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and/or Laboratory Information System (LIS). 
  • Answer telephones, route calls, and respond to patient and provider inquiries within scope.
  • Print, file, and distribute laboratory reports as needed. 
  • Schedule or coordinate laboratory appointments and follow-up testing as directed.
  • Assist with scanning, faxing, and other routine administrative tasks to support clinic operations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient, employee, and organizational information in accordance with HIPAA and clinic policies.
  • 16. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by management.

What You Will Need

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year of phlebotomy experience in a clinical or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Prior clerical or medical office experience preferred.
