The Cardiac Cath Lab at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham provides expert cardiac care in an outpatient setting utilizing cutting-edge technology with three fully equipped cath labs and two non-invasive labs. We offer a range of diagnostic and interventional procedures, including procedures like heart catheterization and percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), as well as advanced imaging

What You Will Do

Responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the daily clinical, operational, and financial activities of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Electrophysiology Laboratory. Ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care through effective leadership, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, staff development, and operational excellence. Partners with physicians, nursing leadership, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes, improve throughput, and support
strategic initiatives across the Cardiovascular Service Line.

1. Provides operational and clinical leadership for the daily functions of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Electrophysiology Laboratory, ensuring safe, efficient, patient-centered care and compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and evidence-based practice.
2. Leads and develops departmental staff by recruiting, hiring, coaching, mentoring, evaluating performance, promoting engagement, and supporting orientation, competency validation, continuing education, and professional development.
3. Manages departmental operations and resources, including staffing, scheduling, call coverage, productivity, budgeting, capital planning, supply utilization, inventory management, and labor expenses to achieve operational and financial goals.
4. Drives quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives by monitoring clinical outcomes, operational metrics, patient satisfaction, regulatory readiness, and process improvement efforts to enhance quality, efficiency, and patient outcomes.
5. Collaborates with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient flow, procedural efficiency, service delivery, and strategic initiatives across the Cardiovascular Service Line.
6. Supports the growth and advancement of cardiovascular services by participating in strategic planning, evaluating new technologies, implementing best practices, and identifying opportunities to improve operational performance and patient access.
7. Analyzes operational, financial, and quality data to identify trends, develop action plans, ensure accountability, and achieve departmental and organizational performance objectives.
8. Performs other leadership responsibilities as assigned, including participation in hospital committees, administrative on-call responsibilities, and organizational initiatives in support of UAB St. Vincent's mission, vision, and values

What You Will Need

Licenses / Certifications / Registrations

  • RN Candidate:
    • Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Alabama.
    • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart
      Association or American Red Cross accepted. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 6-months.
  • Cath Lab Technologist Candidate:
    • Current Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification or Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) with cardiovascular experience.
    • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 6-months.

Minimum Requirements

 

Education:

  • RN Candidate
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Cath Lab Technologist Candidate
    • Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology, Radiologic Technology, or related healthcare field required.
    • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Management, or related field preferred.

Experience

  • Three (3) years of progressive experience in a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory or Cardiovascular procedural area required, five (5) years preferred.
  • One (1) year of leadership experience required, three (3) years preferred.
  • Experience with structural heart, electrophysiology, peripheral vascular, and/or interventional cardiology procedures preferred.
  • Experience with budgeting, staffing, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance preferred.
